Plantronics Discovery 655 Bluetooth Headset Review
Features of the Plantronics Discovery 655 Bluetooth HeadsetWhat's in the Box Inside the package with the Discovery 655 you get the following items:
Discovery 655 Headset The headset itself is a very small and compact unit that weighs a mere 9 grams. I could wear the headset all day without any problems or fatigue. The coolest part about the light-weight of the headset is that I could wear it without the earloop with no fear that it would fall out of my ear. Talk time is superb at 3.5 hours continuous and if you place the headset into the AAA charger between calls you can stretch talk time out to 10 hours. Sound quality is top notch thanks to the DSP Plantronics incorporates into the headset that helps to reduce noise levels. The headset also includes a vibrating ring function to alert you to incoming calls and the Bluetooth range of 33 feet. Both voice-activated dialing and last number redial are supported via the headset as well.
Carry Pocket & Other Accessories For secure carrying of the headset, the plastic carry pocket holds the earpiece in you pocket with a pen like pocket clip. The charge pocket is also where you connect the AAA battery charger to extend the talk time of the earpiece. You can also connect the standard AC charger to the carry pocket as well as the mini-USB charger connector. Plantronics also includes three different sizes of comfortable gel ear tips for optimum fit for different wearers. The ear stabilizer is also included, but is optional.
Plantronics Discovery 655 in Use The first step in setting the 655 up was pairing it with my Motorola Razr. Paring the two was s snap and required nothing more than going into the settings on my Razr and starting the automated search. The Razr recognized the 655 without issue. I really like the small stature of the 655, I hate the way big Bluetooth headsets look on people, if you feel the same way the 655 is one of the smallest headsets I have seen.
The small size and light weight also makes this one of the most comfortable earsets to wear that I have used. I noticed right away that the sound quality is much better on the 655 than on the other Bluetooth headsets I have used previously. I am used to having to turn the volume up high and calls sounding hollow and having a echo's in the background. The DSP takes care of all those extraneous background sounds on the 655. People I called couldn't tell that I was using a Bluetooth headset at all, which I admit was a surprise as far from my mouth as the tiny earpiece is. I choose to not use the ear stabilizer during testing, the small size and light-weight coupled with the excellent fit the gel ear tips give made the 655 secure enough to not need the ear stabilizer.
I could initiate redial directly from the ear piece by tapping the call answer button twice. With my Razr phone calls that came in were automatically transferred to the 655. When you are wearing the earpiece you can answer calls by simply pressing the large button on the front surface of the 655. If the earpiece is in the charge pocket when a call comes in, removing it from the charge pocket automatically answerers the call. To disconnect you simply press the answer button again. Verdict Overall, I very much liked the Plantronics Discovery 655. It offers excellent call quality and long wearing comfort that doesn't call attention to itself thanks to its small size. The vibrating ring function is great and the AAA charger extends the call time out much longer than you would expect form a earpiece this small. If I had to choose only one bluetooth earset, the Discovery 655 would be it for me. I4U Rating
