Overview
There
are two main reasons to get an MP3 player from my point of view:
vacuum cleaning and working out at the gym. Nothing is more loathing
than the deafening noise of the vacuum and the secluded boredom that
comes with it. What is almost more painful is the random selection
of bad music they play at my gym. How nice is it on the other hand
to push out that last bench press with all the energy of “Hell’s
Bells” or to vacuum the apartment for the visiting girl friend
while having Fifty
Cent on full blast.

To
that respect my main criteria in evaluating an MP3 player are
1.
Sound - both output in volume and quality,
2. Size and weight, and
3. Ease of use while pumping iron and handling other electric
appliances.
The
Qwell Series MP200 is a Plug-in
flash-memory MP3 player with a built-in USB interface. It is
manufactured by Plexuscom,
which is a subsidiary of Chou Chin Industrial Group from Taiwan.
Besides digital audio/video products,
Plexuscom manufactures USB peripherals, Network ID cards and
Chip-on-board products.
The
MP200 comes with a CD that contains drivers and manual, earphones
with necklace, USB extension cable and one AAA battery.
Installing
the driver, connecting to the notebook and copying files was easy.
The MP200 can either be directly plugged into the computer or
through the USB cable. It shows up on the computer as a removable
drive, so music files can be easily copied or deleted via drag and
drop.

The
player features three main operational controls and a hold button.
The user interface is easy and straight forward once one has spent
10 minutes with the manual. Otherwise it might be appear somewhat
convoluted, mainly due to the many functions and options. Playback
of music files and switching between those is, however, easy.
The
MP200 is also an FM radio and a voice and radio recorder.
Unfortunately, I could not really find any but one radio station
which had a slightly decent reception. The voice and radio recorder
function works very well and offers different choices between 8kHz
and 48kHz.
The
Equalizer settings are Normal, Jazz, Classical, Pop and Rock. They
all sound quite similar, but the Rock setting seemed to be the one
working best for me.
On
the downside, the earphones with neck strap do not leave much option
apart from having the MP200 dangling from your neck at all times.
That is too bad as its small size lets it comfortably fit in the
smallest pant pocket. Another minus is that there are no memory
expansion options.

Conclusion
Bottom
line, the MP200 delivers on my above outlined criteria. It is
lightweight and compact. It has a good enough quality sound,
delivers a high volume output, and features an LCD with an easy to
use user interface. Additionally, it comes with a FM radio and both
voice and radio recording functionality. The battery life is well
over 10 hours which should be more then enough to get through the
weekly work-out at the gym and cleaning routine at home.
