Overview
Multi Memory Card reader are
somehow a necessary evil with the different storage card media types
out there. Only if you buy into one brand like Sony, you can stay
clear of the different format mess. The other big benefit with a USB
2.0 card reader is the transfer speed. If your Camera just supports
USB 1.1 and you have a 512MB of photos it starts to make a
difference to transfer the data from the Card Reader with USB 2.0.
The transfer speed of the Hyundai 8 in 1 Card Reader is 480Mb/s. USB
1.1 has a data transfer speed of 12Mb/s. That is a 40x difference
theoretically. Of course most storage media does not support that
kind of speed. A Sony
Memory Stick DUO does though get pretty close to utilize USB 2.0
bandwidth with 20 megabytes per second.

Usage
There are not many simpler to use Gadgets out there than a Card
Reader. The Hyundai has a smartly integrated USB cable that hides
inside the case. Pulled out the USB cable is about 2 inches long.
When I plug in the Card reader in my new Windows XP IBM
Thinkpad X40 ( I will review that new sub notebook in the near
future, can already say its very small and amazing!) four removable
drives are mapped after the Card reader is detected. Only issue is
to guess which one is the drive I put the Memory stick in. There is
no indication, which of the drives actually has a card inserted. The
drive letters mapping is the same though when I unplug and plug it
in again. Transferring files is really fast thanks to the USB 2.0.
During File transfer the blue light on top is flickering. Never pull
out a card when the light is flickering, else you might loose data. That is pretty much it. I can of course also write files to the
cards. It is not just a card reader so to say.
The Hyundai 8 in 1 Card Reader supports the following storage cards:
Smart media card
XD-picture card
Multi Media card
Memory Stick
Compact Flash card
Secure Digital card
IBM Micro Drive
Memory Stick Pro
(Memory Stick Duo via the Memory Stick Duo Adaptor)
The Hyundai is compatible with
Windows and Apple Computers. See specifications below for more
