Overview
USB powered speakers are an interesting space and cable saving
solution. The Samsung Trution speakers support 3D sound with a 5.1
channel simulation that is working quite well. The speakers provide
2x 0.4W power. The frequency response
is 200Hz - 20KHz and the impendence is 4 Ohms. The measurements of
the USB speakers is only 60x100x50mm.
The design is nice and the speakers look well made. The
clear plastic gives them a shiny and modern look.

The speakers can also be directly connected to the audio output, but
of course than they are just passive, but still usable. The bundled
software allows me to enable 5.1 Surround sound simulation. When the
speakers are plugged in after the software (Xear USB) is installed a
tray icon appears. The first screen in the software controls basic
settings like left and right speaker assignment and volume. It
is quite intriguing what comes out of those little boxes then. The
software lets me drag each box (see photo below) around or set the
room size for the sound simulation. A little 3D helicopter program
shows what the spatial sound simulation can do. The software also
has tons of equalizer settings and sound distortions/environments
like parking lot, drugged, dizzy, underwater - fun to play with.
What else is there to say about speakers. Those small speakers are
of course not extremely powerful. They are loud enough, but I would
not be able to annoy my neighbors with them.

Conclusion
The Samsung Trution 5.1 surround sound
USB speakers are nicely made set of speakers that are visually
attractive. The 5.1 surround sound simulation works well. USB
Speakers like this are ideal for travel and connecting to a
notebook.
