Rampell: All of the profit, none of the responsibility

WASHINGTON • Sometimes, under certain circumstances, McDonald’s Corp. might be held partly responsible for its franchisees’ bad behavior. Maybe. So announced the National Labor Relations Board’s general counsel, a sort of independent prosecutor, this week. Predictably, labor groups cheered while industry spokesmen declared that economic collapse was imminent. The truth, despite the hyperventilation, is that the consequences of this announceme ...

Russell Moore answers all you wanted to know about sex (but were afraid to ask)

The issues sound like they belong on the therapist’s couch: The couple who haven’t had sex eight months into their marriage. The parents who can’t deal with their son’s homosexuality. The male teen who wants to be called by a girl’s name. But they’re also the kinds of topics that frequently crowd the inbox of Russell Moore, who recently marked his first anniversary as the Southern Baptist Convention’s top public policy expert. Golf: 5 things to know for the PGA Championship

Rory McIlroy didn’t spend much time celebrating his wire-to-wire victory at the British Open. Then again, he didn’t have a lot of time. Just 18 days after the engraver etched his name into the silver claret jug, McIlroy tees off in final major of the year at the PGA Championship, which returns this year to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Bloomberg View: House Republicans’ dysfunction

House Republicans Thursday killed their own bill on the immigration crisis, which may be just as well: It wasn’t a bill so much as a meta-bill. Which is to say it was designed not to address the problem of scores of thousands of child immigrants showing up at the United States’s southern border, but the problem of Democrats saying House Republicans had failed to address the problem. Now that they have failed to achie ...

Yellowstone visitors willing to pay a lot more to see bears

Jackson, Wyo. • A new study says visitors to Yellowstone National Park want to see grizzly and black bears so much they would pay more than double park’s the current entry fee to be ensured of seeing one. A report in the Journal of Environmental Management suggests Yellowstone could raise its current entrance fee to offset the cost of bears that appear frequently along roadsides. Lowry: Constitutional crisis for fun and profit

Republicans and Democrats are consumed in a vicious debate over which party wants to talk about impeachment more. Democrats say it is lunatic Republicans who are scheming, as we speak, to impeach the president. Republicans say it is manipulative Democrats who are eager to play up the nonexistent chance of impeachment to motivate their voters in the midterm elections. It is certainly true that conservatives ...

Golf: A solid start for Woods, the lead for Leishman

Akron, Ohio • Tiger Woods began his title defense in the Bridgestone Invitational with a perfect tee shot down the middle of the fairway and a shot that covered the flag until it settled 10 feet behind the hole. Three putts later, he walked off with a bogey. Another day of trying to find his game? Not quite. He followed with six birdies to atone for a few more mistakes, and wound up with a 2-under 68 that at least gave him ho ...
