Robot Maker Sells Sons To Pay Off Debts

Don't worry. It's not as bad as it sounds, unless you happen to be named Wu Yulu and refer to robots you created as your "sons". Dubbed China's most famous amateur robot maker, Wu has made dozens of robots out of spare parts that are so smart they can actually light cigarettes and serve drinks.

Found in financial turmoil, though, Wu was forced to sell a handful of his robots, mainly to pay for the new house he got when his current one burned down. He sold them to the Chinese Academy of Sciences for "several thousand" dollars.The most interesting thing I find in this whole story is that Wu dropped out of school at the age of 12. I don't know the schooling system in China that well, but I do know that a 44-year-old American farmer with the education level of a 6th grader probably couldn't get his inventions into a scientific academy. I guess that's China for you.
