Based on market data by Enterbrain Inc. for the first time portable game consoles outsell home game consoles in Japan for the period January to June 2006.

Portable game consoles generated 59% of overall game console sales in Japan for the first half of 2006. 2002 the share was at only 20%.

The Nintendo DS is mostly responsible for this. The Nintendo DS has passed 10 million shipped units just 20 month after introduction. The Sony PSP sales are still behind Nintendo's.

The launch of the Sony PS3 and of the Nintendo Wii sure will counter the current domination of the portable consoles.Enterbrain Inc. is the parent company of the famous Famitsu gaming magazines.
