Toshiba has developed natural-sounding voice synthesizer software that needs only about 25% the usual amount of audio data such systems currently require.

The lower amount of data needed make the software ideal to be deployed in small gadgets. Toshiba focuses though on car navigation solutions first. Toshiba compares the quality with professional call center solutions. The emphasis lies in this solution apparently on the quality of the voice and flexibility (almost any language can be synthesized) besides the low data needs.
