I Am the Average Video Game Player

According to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) I am the average video game player. They say that the most likely gamer is a 33 year old and that has been playing for about 12 years.

The ESA also says that nearly 70% of American heads-of-households play computer and video games, and go on to say that there are more women over the age of 18 (30%) who play video games compared to males under the age of 17 (23%) that play video games.

I will be 33 this year and I have been gaming since I was three and my dad bought Pong home one day, so I have been gaming for nearly 30 years. Looking back I can recall my dad playing Pong more than me, so perhaps in as much of a way as possible in the late 70’s and early 80’s my dad was a gamer too. Seems that gamers begat gamers.I also have two young kids that play games. Sure I don’t let them play violent games; we stick to “E” rated and the occasional non-violent “T” rated game. My kids and I both enjoy our game time together. For all the political types that say video games are contributing to the demise of our youth I say whatever. Bad parents and no self control are contributing to the demise of our youth.
