Good new and not so good news for European gamers. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced that Playstation 3 (PS3) will be launched on March 23, 2007. But, PS3 fans may be forced to either throw some of their old games to the wind or hold on to their old PS and PS2’s.

The European PS3 now uses hardware and software emulations in which the software controls some of the functionality that was previously controlled by dedicated chips. This new design leaves European gamers with a limited number of PS2 games they can use with the new console. "Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3," Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) said in a statement.
