Sharp is already offering IrSS infra-red interface to show photos from Mobile Phones on the TV screen in their new Aquos R-Series HDTVs. Now they also offer the HN-IR1 IrSS accessory to enable other TVs with this capability.
The IrSS interface allows for speeds of 4Mbps. The maximum supported file size is 6MB. You need to be a maximum of 20cm away from the HN-IR1 to transfer a photo from your mobile phone to display it on the TV.
With a button on the device you can turn the photo by 90 degrees if necessary. The device puts out 1080i resolution and supports photos with full HD resolution of 1920x1080 pixels.
Sharp will ship the HN-IR1 in April in Japan.
More details about the HN-IR1 IrSS device can be found in this Sharp press-release (Japanese).
