At an otherwise unimportant event, managing director of Sony's UK division Ray Maguire confirmed that a new version of the PSP is in the works. Said Maguire, the current PSP is just the "first iteration" and a "smaller, lighter" console will replace it in the future.
It's just like the original Playstation and the PS2. Both home consoles got a sleeker, lighter redesign. The PSOne also got a price drop from the regular Playstation. A newer PSP could mark a lower price, with the GBP 179 price having been in effect since the console's launch.Maguire may have let the cat out of the bag a little too soon, as other Sony execs back peddled after the comments. "In the longest term, of course we are always looking at ways to continue our platform development, and this normal business practice is what Ray was referring to," said a company person in response to Maguire's comments.
