The Nintendo DS now accounts for 68% of the handheld market in the English country, as the dual-screen platform has passed the impressive 3 million unit milestone has been passed in the UK alone.

"It’s a great testament to the strength of the DS hardware and software range available that just as Nintendo DS has passed its second birthday here in the UK, it reaches such a landmark sales figure," said David Yarnton, the head of Nintendo UK.Nintendo attributed some of the success of the platform to the "Touch! Generations" games, which include the massively popular Brain Age, and has helped bring the console into the hands of non-traditional gamers.

We're sure to see another surge in hardware sales with Pokemon Diamond and Pearl come out later this year, and as more Wii titles begin to have DS connectivity.
