Despite beeing a very successful market for Sony, Europe is last in getting a Sony Blu-ray player. The Sony BDP-S1E is the European version of the BDP-S1 sold in the U.S. since last year.

The Sony BDP-S1E is supposed to sell for 1,200 Euro (~814 GBP). The Sony BDP-S1 blu-ray player is currently selling for $763.72 on Amazon in the United States. This price converts to 388 GBP or 572 Euro.
This would mean Europe pays a 100% premium on the BDP-S1E compared to the U.S. (sure we have to consider sales tax, conversion rate, etc., still double the price cannot be it). On top of that Sony will release the cheaper Sony BDP-S300 that has a price of around $600.

Let's hope the retailers will bring the price way under 1,200 Euro. The big price difference arises mostly because the BDP-S1 is already on the market for so long. It will take a while until the price drops in Europe, unless Sony is doing something. The Sony PS3 looks compared the BDP-S1E like a real bargain Blu-ray player.

The BDP-S1E will ship this summer. More details in this Sony press-release.
