Here's a sign that mobile phones are really pushing the multimedia envelope. Samsung's F500 has just been granted DivX certification, meaning it can play back high resolution video content.

The phone itself has a cool swivel screen (kind of like the phone version of a Tablet PC) and it has the ability to also capture video in DivX format. The question is -- can you still talk on it? No one really mentions that in phone announcements anymore."The addition of DivX Certification to the Samsung F500 mobile handset opens a broad ecosystem of digital media that can be taken on the road while preserving the kind of high-quality experience that video aficionados demand," said DivX CEO Kevin Hell (yes, that's actually his name).

The phone is due out in the UK later this year.
