The honorable, respectable, master Sir Howard Stringer, otherwise known as the CEO of Sony, is declaring its launch of the PS3 in Europe a success, announcing that unit sales in the continent have totalled 800,000.

"I think [in] the first 2 days in the UK, £100m ($199m) revenue changed hands and that's probably the largest consumer electronics sale in history," said Stringer. The week following the Euro launch saw a widely publicized plummet in sales, but Sony says it's still happy with the progress in the UK and other major areas. In the US and Japan, PS3 sales have comfortably tapered off. Recent sales data show the Sony console behind both the Wii and Xbox 360.

We're still waiting for a real killer PS3 app to put Sony back in front. Can anyone say PS3 Home?
