A new study from Comscore, the reigning leader in online statistics, shows that nearly six million people in the UK accessed the Internet from a mobile phone in January of this year. That's practically a new record.

On the whole, this is a large increase from where it was last year. In fact, nearly 1 in every 5 people who accesses the Internet in the UK is now accessing it from a phone.Men dominated the study, with about 63% of mobile web users designated as males. What's even more interesting is the sites that got the most hits. BBC practically accounted for half of all users, with 2.3 million unique hits on its cell phone-friendly site. Sky came in second with 1.2 million unique viewers in January.
