The NY Times has an interesting article looking at the successful Apple retail concept and the Sony's new stores that want to be fashion stores.

Apple opened the first retail store in 2001 and it has been a success story every since, despite early skepticism. Just look at the Mega Apple stores the company opened in NYC, things must run well. Windows PC retail concepts did not work out that well in the past. Maybe the new Wal-mart Dell partnership is going to make it.

Sony started in 2004 with their retail stores. The latest ones are Sony Style branded ones, which are supposed to be similar to fashion stores.
