Today Sony announced three multi-format DVD/CD RW drives coming to market for the holidays. The 840 series Sony drives support 20x DVD+/-R recording to deliver full 4.7GB capacities on standard 16x media.

Recording to 8.5GB DVD+/-R DL media at 12x is also supported. One of the drives, the DRU-840A is an internal 5.25” desktop Pc drive. The DRX-840U is a USB drive bundled with Nero 7 Express.

The DRX-S70U is a slim burner aimed at notebook users and ships with the full version of Nero 7. The internal drive also includes a black bezel to help match more PC cases. The internal DRU-840A is available now for $70, the DRX-840U is expected to ship next month for about $110 and the DRX-S70U will ship next month for around $130. Via Sony
