If you got a new GPS unit for Christmas and are looking for something to do with it, a trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains might be in order. Asheville North Carolina is calling for tourists to bring their GPS units with them to town starting on May 20th, 2008.

A series of Geocaches will be set up in and around the city with prizes totaling more than $1700. Participants who stay in qualifying hotels will be provided with clues to find the coordinates for the special caches with their GPS devices.

Asheville has more than 7,600 geocaches hidden within 100 miles of downtown. Prizes in the cache include free items from local merchants including some high-tech gear like altimeter watches.
