EA announced the development of a new video game today called Battlefield Heroes. The game will be available this summer and the best part is that the game is free to download and play. EA is offering the game totally free of charge and it will be supported by micro-transactions and in game advertising. The game will feature cartoon style graphics and will allow players of all skill levels to play.

One important feature of the game is a matchmaking application that pairs players of the same skill level together for fair play. EA says that the character development is robust and will allow for hours of game play.

"We put a different twist on this Battlefield game going with the cartoon-style graphics and game play," added Ben Cousins, Senior Producer at EA DICE. "There's something here for all types of players -- be it our core Battlefield fans or casual gamers. With the new online model, we will continually add new content to keep the game fresh and keep players engaged, while integrating player feedback in real time. As a game developer, it is such a cool new way to make games."
