The BBC announced today that its iPlayer will be available for Mac computers in 2008. Criticism was made when the BBC launched its iPlayer for Windows only.

BBC director general Mark Thompson said, “I hope this good news is evidence of the hard work that the BBC is committing to supporting other platforms.” Thompson said that the decision to launch the iPlayer for Windows was only made to get the player to the largest amount of people in the shortest time.

Windows users vastly outnumber Mac users. The BBC iPlayer is available in two versions with one being the current Windows only download player and the other a streaming web-based player available to all Internet users.
