Sony announced last week that it would offer what it called a “Fresh Start” on its range of Vaio laptops for a $50 fee. This fee basically removed all the crap pre-installed on your computer that you will never use and never wanted.

The problem for Sony came over the weekend when the online backlash to the fee created a stir. Sony announced yesterday that they would now offer the “Fresh Start” program free of charge to buyers.

According to Pocket-Lint Sony tried to justify the cost of the program by saying the PC had to go through system optimization service. Yeah right, they just used a drive image without a lot of crap installed on it. I seriously doubt the “Fresh Start” costs Sony any more to do.
