Microsoft’s popular smartphone OS windows mobile is getting a version upgrade on April 1st to version 6.1. The recent version of Windows Mobile 6.0 was released in February 2007 and according to reports the new 6.1 is merely a stop gap until Windows Mobile 7.0 hits.

Pocket-lint says screen shots that have been leaked around the web show a cleaner, less Vista-inspired look for version 6.1.

Notable new features include new fonts, new home screen, and new features like task manager and copy and paste from IE. No word on what the first devices to use version 6.1 of the OS will be at this time.
