Today Asteroid 2012 DA14 is going to pass (Hopefully!) earth. Astronomers calculated now that the asteriod will come record-breaking close to earth.

Earlier we reported about the meteorite explosion in Russia, but there is another event going on that is hopefully less scary. Asteroid 2012 DA14 is passing earth today. The asteroid is about 50m in diameter. It will get as close as 17,200 miles according to a report on the BBC.

Asteroid 2012 DA14 will have its closest distance to earth at about noon ET. Watch this BBC video report for an animated simulation of the fly by.
