The European Commission is looking into Apple’s iPhone tactics since reports came out saying that it was abusing its powers. The aim of this scrutiny is to probe into its strategy to see if there has been a breach of trust.
When complaints get lodged there will be retaliation or at least an inquiry by the authorities that be. Apple Incorporated has been the target of this action recently. After a series of gripes by disgruntled competitors, the European Commission set up a round of investigative efforts.According to The Verge, the aim of these was to find out if Apple was trying to outmaneuver the competition through unfair practices. By the use of certain antics in sales as well as through the imposition of controls over handsets, Apple was causing resentment among its rival organizations. The inquiry is in its nascent phase. After a number of remarks by mobile operators got out in the open, the EC began to chalk out a plan to explore the matter further. However, it will have to make sure that Apple is the dominant player in the arena before it makes any move to set things straight. Apple meanwhile has issued a statement saying that all of its acts are in complete alignment with the laws.

A questionnaire that was nine pages in length was sent to various European mobile operators to find out if the charges were valid. According to some of the information gathered by the commission there is some degree of hanky-panky involved in the whole affair. Not for nothing have voices been raised. Then it can be said with certainty that in many European countries Apple products don’t work. This calls for some serious antitrust issues to be brought out in the light of day. All is not well with Apple. The questionnaire has several other queries related to malpractice and evasion of responsibility. It is basically a thorough analysis of the factors that may have caused so many to have called Apple’s tactics foul. The results are still to come. When they do there will be little left in the way of doubt as to the moral responsibility or irresponsibility of Apple.
Competition has a tendency of warding off the curse of monopoly. When many competitors try to gain the favors of consumers they end up making better and better products. This brings an evolution of products and practices and also ensures that no one firm is king. However, with such giants as Microsoft and Google hogging the limelight it seems monopolistic tendencies are beginning to surface on a global level. These have to be countered for they are not a healthy economic trend. And so Apple too finds itself under the antitrust eye.
