Rumor claims Amazon Has a Set-Top Box Code-Named Cinnamon Coming in Time for the Holidays

Rumor says the set-top box will land in time for Christmas shopping

A rumor has been making the rounds that Amazon is getting ready to step into the streaming set-top box market to compete against Apple and others. According to the rumor, Amazon is currently putting the finishing touches on a set-top box that's code-named Cinnamon. The product is said to be ready in time for holiday shopping.

The rumor also claims that Amazon has been approaching studios and cable providers in an attempt to secure content deals for the device. Amazon has been rumored to be working on this device since April of this year.

Amazon has done well competing against Apple in the tablet market and if it's able to make a compelling set top box with lots of content a good price, it could very well in this market. However, the set-top box would have to be cheap considering that devices such as the Chromecast are available under $40.
