The disappearance of a three year old girl from her resort’s bedroom in 2007 led to a full scale police search and suspect images are drawn. The abduction of Madeleine McCann is still a mystery today and yet the police are searching high and low for her kidnapper.

The parents of three year old Madeleine McCann had no idea that their daughter would go missing that fateful day in 2007. They were surprised to find her missing from her bedroom in a Portuguese resort where the whole family was staying. The Portuguese police was negligent in the investigation. Then to add insult to injury, Madeleine’s parents were prosecuted as possibly being linked with the kidnapping.

The British tabloids had a field day dragging their reputation through the mud. It was only later on that their innocence was proved in court. The tabloids had to recompense them for the libel. Meanwhile, Madeleine’s parents used the money to start a fund for their missing daughter. Her abductor had to be brought to justice and most of all their daughter had to be saved.

Finally, in 2011, Scotland Yard opened up the case and a serious investigation got underway. Since several years had elapsed since the disappearance a new photo of the by now older Madeleine was made by an artist and circulated.

No stone was to be left unturned in order to find the girl who was hoped to be alive. Even an image of the kidnapper was formed by identikit and distributed. The police have collected a lot of evidence and may be close to catching the culprit and by proxy rescuing Madeleine McCann.

Update: BBC will reveal more details in tonights' Crimewatch. See the trailer below.
