Police in the UK made a raid on what could possibly be the first 3D gun-printing factory. A 3D printer was confiscated along with several plastic components which are supposed to belong to a firearm.

The issue of crime has taken on a whole new air with the possibility of 3D guns being created on the spot by 3D printers. Police in Manchester made a raid in which they seized the tools and products of a firearm factory in the making. The whole aim of the operation was to accost the gangsters and criminals that had besieged the city with their violent behavior.

The police discovered a magazine and a trigger that could be employed to build a gun capable of killing people. A 3D printer was capable of issuing forth spurts of plastic which made the components of these firearms. Anyone could buy a 3D printer in the market and, with instructions downloaded from the Internet, manufacture a home-built weapon. And the thin plastic material that got deposited in layers made detection by screening devices doubly difficult.

It was bad news since not much could be done to stop people from manufacturing firearms within the comfort of their homes. This new technology had made it easier for criminals and lowlife elements to create dangerous weapons on a massive scale. It could prove a giant menace in the times to come.

Earlier, the “Liberator” was the world’s first plastic gun created from a 3D printer in the United States. The necessity of licensing was being considered regarding this potentially lethal invention.
