Isla Fisher tried to Avoid Hough's Halloween Scandal

A Halloween story is red hot today in trending celebrity news. Halloween should be already old news, but here comes a new report about Isla Fisher trying to save Julianne Hough from her costume mistake.

Julianne Hough came to a Halloween party with a blackface makeup. This is seen as racist because blackface makeup was used in comedy shows to make fun of African Americans in the worst ways. The so called Minstrel shows took place in the 1800s. See this great Reddit answer for more details on why this is bad.

Now US Weekly reports that actress Isla Fisher tried to save Julianne Hough last minute at the party according to sources, but it was too late. The photos of her blackface makeup already hit the wires. That this report is trending today shows how big off an issue blackface makeup is.

Julianne Hough's costume was Crazy Eyes from Netflix's hit series Orange is the New Black. The idea was good, but the execution lacked understanding of American history. Hough has since apologized. It is worth noting that Isla Fisher has not confirmed this and her rep actually denies that she got involved.
