Google Doodle Celebrates Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary with a Playable "Whodle"

Google is celebrating Doctor Who's 50th anniversary today with an animated playable Doodle that is called "Whodle". This is the biggest Doodle ever developed by Google.

Today, Google is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the British sci-fi cult show Doctor Who with an animated Doodle. This is the biggest Doodle ever created by Google. This animated Doodle is basically a playable node and it was internally called "Whodle". The mini game of this Doodle is based on Sonic Screwdriver owner.

Until now, 11 versions of Doctor Who have been released. Each one has a different actor in it playing Doctor Who. And when you click on the arrow marked start, you will see all 11 Doctor Who actors. You have to choose one of the Doctor Who 2D version players to start the game. And you have to then further guide your player Doctor to collect the letters in order to spell the word “Google”.

But your game will come to an end if you happen to get blocked by Daleks, Cybermen, or Weeping Angels on the route. Your Doctor player will then die. But you may regenerate it by cycling through a list of Doctors that includes Matt Smith, Tom Baker, Peter Davison and a few others. In other words, you can restart your game if you like.

This Google Doodle is really a good one to commemorate Doctor Who's 50th birthday. Matthew Cruickshank is the leader of the team behind this big "Whodle". He said, "It's the first game that I've designed. But it's the technicians and programmers that actually make the game. I just art direct, create the assets, set the visual tone, design the characters, and then do pieces of animation."

Five people actually worked on this Doodle. Matthew Cruickshank has been working at Google as a full-time doodler for over a year. "It was about four months ago that an employee here, who's a massive Doctor Who fan, added it to our list of potential doodles. We looked through it and realized that this was something special, a chance to really celebrate a national institution," said Cruickshank.

Meanwhile, a special episode of Doctor Who is also going to air on a worldwide level on November 23rd, 2013. The title of this episode is "Day of the Doctor". In this special episode, ex-Doctor David Tennant and current Doctor Matt Smith will both appear along with the upcoming doctor, Peter Capaldi.
