Space travel endeavor Virgin Galactic tries hard to be futuristic. Now the company announced to accept Bitcoin as payment for a trip to space.

Bitcoin is this weird virtual currency that came out of nowhere. It's value is going up and down like a roller coaster. I imagine that we will have a universal virtual currency at some point in the future. I do not think though it will be Bitcoin. It will be some new thing established by governments. I do not believe that any government on earth wants to give up currency monopoly. At some point they will get together to create a government approved global virtual currency.

Anyway aside from negative opinion on bitcoins, more and more companies accept Bitcoin for payment. The latest one is Virgin Galactic. Virgin Galactic said that one future astronaut, a female flight attendant from Hawaii, has already purchased her Virgin Galactic ticket using bitcoins, and we expect many more to follow in her footsteps.

Richard Branson said that he has invested in some bitcoins. He finds bitcoins fascinating. Especially how a whole new global currency has been created. He recommends that people who can afford it to invest a little in bitcoins. Read Richard Branson's full take on Bitcoins here.
