Google to make big in-car announcement at CES 2014

A war between Android and iOS for space inside cars has been brewing for a while now. Both Google and Apple want to get their OS into the infotainment systems inside cars. Google is working on this with its hands free tech and voice control, as is Apple with things like Siri Eyes Free.

At CES 2014 Google is expected to strike a big blow in the battle with the announcement of an industry consortium for connecting smartphones with cars. Google is expected to announce something at CES called Android in the Car. That announcement will also involve the formation of the industry coalition I mentioned before.

The goal for Google according to EE Times is to make it easier for developers to design apps for cars. there are no hard details on Google's plans at this time. Google is reportedly going to use Miracast to display apps running on the Android phone on an in-car infotainment screen. The catch to this system is that a WiFi network would be needed in the car.
