Most of North America is in what has been termed as a polar vortex of sorts. This puzzling phenomenon has brought extreme weather conditions to the United States.

The freezing weather is the worst to ever hit America in two decades. Most of Canada and areas of Chicago have been affected most by this climatic chaos. The winter storm has heaped mounds of snow on everything from cars to roads to rooftops.

More than a dozen deaths have occurred thanks to the blizzards and bone-chilling winds. And as for the airports they are closed as thousands of flights have been grounded due to the horrendous weather conditions.

The authorities have issued warnings regarding venturing outside the home. It is not only risky but could prove fatal. Frostbite and hypothermia are twin dangers that will beset anyone who dares to go into the external world without protection.

Temperatures as low as minus 51 degrees Celsius below zero have been recorded in many areas. The whole phenomenon has been termed the polar vortex. The cold air seems to have spread and now virtually half of America is in its thrall. The bitter weather has everyone in a state of cabin fever.

No one likes remaining cooped up inside their homes for extended periods of time. Yet that is precisely the demand of the day. And the trend will continue for some time. Last time such a record icy weather came to the region was in 1994. This does not occur on a regular basis. It is a once in a blue moon enigma.
