The Japanese company, Suntory has acquired famous whiskey maker Jim Beam for $13.6 billion. The quality and image of the product is slated to remain pretty much the same despite the change in ownership.

Two behemoths in the liquor business have merged. Jim Beam, the whiskey maker has undergone a takeover by Suntory Holdings, Japan’s alcohol king. Jim Beam is the creator of Maker’s Mark. The corn distilled spirits that are made by this All-American organization are currently in high demand. It is almost as if the world is in the grip of a whiskey revival.

The amount in cash paid by Suntory was $13.6 billion. Now the whiskey business has become concentrated and has also acquired a focal point. The various products that will be churned out from the fire-water factories will include: Knob Creek, Canadian Club, Courvoisier, Pinnacle, Yamazaki, Hakushu, Bowmore Scotch, Midori and of course Jim Beam and Maker’s Mark.

The whiskey and alcohol business execs are thus going to be playing with some big numbers indeed. The current scenario is such that bourbon and whiskey are the #1 spirits consumed by Americans. The shares of Jim Beam too reached the stratosphere upon acquisition by Suntory.

The deal will be finalized in the second quarter of 2014 and then the sky is the limit. The phenomenal growth of this sector is expected to occur in the near future. However, the original recipe for the liquor along with its distinctive flavor will be a closely guarded secret. The shift in ownership will not affect the originality of the fermented mixture.
