Final Fantasy XV is in development now

Fans of the Final Fantasy franchise are waiting in anticipation for the next game in the franchise. Square Enix is keeping mum about exactly when that game will launch, but the company is offering up a few bits of information for fans.

Series producer Yoshinori Kitase has said that development on final Fantasy XV is quite far along. He also says that the game is a "very high priority" for Square Enix.

"We can't give too much information but certainly looking at Final Fantasy XV, it's not as if it's in competition with Kingdom Hearts 3 for resources or anything like that," Kitase said. "It's quite far into development now and it is being given a very high priority within the company itself, but that doesn't mean Kingdom Hearts isn't."

Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3 were coming at E3 in 2013. Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV share a project lead. That means that Kingdom Hearts 3 is expected to launch after Final Fantasy XV since the project lead can only work on one title at a time. Word is that Square will adapt an existing battle system to the game for next generation consoles to save time. Final Fantasy XV ix expected for PS4 and Xbox One gamers.

"We are quite aware of [PS4 & Xbox One's] capabilities and certainly one thing that's going to come up is having battles with a lot more participants involved," said Kitase. "Having a lot more characters, a lot more things happening, that's one of the things that the new hardware does really well, so to maybe make a battle system for a Final Fantasy game or a future game that fits with that, I think it would be quite good to have more characters for the player to control and more participants in the battle."
