The passengers were evacuated in the nick of time. US Airways flight 1702 was stalled from takeoff due to an exploded tire.

The US Airways plane was unsteady from the beginning. Then when it took off, it sort of bounced and then nosedived according to one passenger. A tire had just exploded leading the pilot to abort the takeoff.

As the plane came to a standstill there was certain degree of damage and pandemonium on board. The passengers cried out in fear and panic spread among them. Two were injured although the injuries they incurred were minor in nature.

Soon everything was brought control as the fire department vehicles were called in and the passengers evacuated the plane in a hurry. The airplane’s nose gear had undergone extensive damage.

It was a sheer miracle that the plane had been stopped in the nick of time. Had it taken off into the air, the landing with the blown tire would have been disastrous.

Flight 1702 was to fly off into the empyrean heights from Fort Lauderdale. But such was not in its fate. As outsiders saw it from their point of view, the plane’s nose hit the ground, then it bounced up and down a couple of times before becoming engulfed in a swirl of dust.

There were a total of 149 passengers and five crew members on board the plane. The passengers meanwhile got the fright of a lifetime. One person on board tweeted “So my plane just crashed. I almost just died.”

Although there was no fire, smoke billowed from the engine and hydraulic fluid was leaking as well. Overall there was a state of emergency at the airport and many other flights got delayed too.

But on the whole the passengers thanked their lucky stars. They had narrowly escaped a grisly end. For had the airplane taken off instead of coming down while it was still on ground level, things would have gotten a lot worse.
