The announcement of TV channel Lifetime to air a show about women giving birth in the wild without assistance shocks people around the world.

Lifetime announced that they picked up four new unscripted programs, including Born in the Wild, a series about natural child birth in the wild. You read that right. Born in the Wild will document young expectant parents who have chosen to give birth in the wild.

I already have my issues with birth at home as there is always the risk that something can go wrong that puts mother and child in danger. To give birth in the wild takes that risk several levels higher and that just for the sakes of a reality TV show. I certainly won't watch it, but apparently there is a huge audience.

The show is inspired by a Youtube video that has 20 million views. The video shows a mother giving birth at a creek in the tropics.

Below some reactions on Twitter to the show.
