Andy Murray has appointed Amelie Mauresmo as the official coach.

Andy Murray had long since discarded Ivan Lendl and it was thought that Amelie Mauresmo will be the replacement in the capacity of coach. Well, that rumor turned into reality recently.

"Andy has appointed French coach and former World Number 1, Amelie Mauresmo, as his new coach, initially for the grass court season," states Murray on his website.

See below the Photos of Amelie Mauresmo while speaking to a press conference after being appointed as Andy Murray of Great Britain's new coach on day fifteen of the French Open at Roland Garros on June 8, 2014 in Paris, France.

Andy Murray spoke about how Amelie was the perfect choice and that he had always held her in great admiration and esteem. Furthermore, he said that she was an excellent player that had performed quite well over a long period of time. The fact that she faced so many hardships along the way was proof of the mettle she was made of and her high caliber.

Andy said of the appointment: “I’m excited by the possibilities of the new partnership and Amelie is someone I have always looked up to and admired. She’s faced adversity plenty of times in her career, but was an amazing player and won major titles, including Wimbledon.”

“I have a very strong coaching team already in place, but I think Amelie brings with her experience and tactical expertise and will push us all to improve. Everyone I know talks very highly of Amelie, as a person and coach, and I’m convinced that her joining the team will help us push on – I want to win more grand slams.”

Amelie was the very person, he said, that would take him to heights. She was expected to help improve the overall performance and quality of skills among players. As the ideal choice for coaching, she was a spot-on replacement and would serve the Wimbledon organization well.

Amelie Mauresmo added: “I’m really excited to be able to work with Andy. He’s an amazingly talented tennis player and I feel I have plenty to offer both him and the team around him. I’m looking forward to getting down to work and helping him win more Grand Slams.”

Mauresmo already has a few titles which she has won and she also happens to be a silver medalist. How the two will manage as coach and student is yet to reach its apogee.

It is hoped that the relationship will be one of fruitful cross-pollination. The obvious fact that Murray has a female coach may set tongues wagging yet there is a level of professionalism that exceeds chivalry and gentlemanly behavior between the two.

In the past, Andy Murray’s mother also played a key role in his career. So he is used to some female intuition and the womanly wisdom helps him play better. There are issues of compatibility yet things will work out in the end.

The kinks and twists in a working relationship often smooth out with the passage of time and there is a state of flow in the end. It is this flow that is the most sought-after thing on the planet whether in sports or science or art. Andy has a trusted mentor in Amelie and he will benefit from her training influence.
