Marin Cilic is the new US Open champion. This marks his first Grand Slam win.

For the first time in almost 10 years no player from the ATP's Big Four has been in a major tennis tournament. Marin Cilic and Kei Nishikori broke the spell. Croatian Marin Cilic was seeded at 14 and Japanese Kei Nishikori entered the US Open 2014 seeded at 10th.

Marin Cilic though crushed Nishikori in the finals and waltzed to the win in under two hours with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 win.

Cilic is the new hero in Croatia. He follows the footsteps of famous player Goran Ivanisevic. Croatia had to wait 13 years for a major tennis tournament win.
