Denzel Washington plays quite a vital role in the film The Equalizer.

Denzel Washington’s latest film The Equalizer has the topic of OCD as its central issue. The talented actor is shown bearing the brunt of the Russian underground. His obsessive-compulsive character in it shows that theatrical performance remains Denzel’s main passion.

"The producer wanted the name and basic premise and that was about it," says Washington. "I helped develop the character a bit more."

Denzel’s role of Robert McCall is a man who has all the observation of a fine artist or a psychologist. He can detect everything in his environment and make snap judgments based upon those little things he notes down. He kills his opponents mercilessly via these small hidden details that the ordinary man misses on a daily basis.

McCall is shown as a man who leads a double life. He has no wife so he goes clandestinely by night to read books and hob nob with a sex worker named Teri. Teri is played by Chloe Grace Moretz.

However, his basic quality of being a trained murderer comes out when he takes on the criminals who control Teri. The character Denzel plays in the movie is one who having lost his wife develops those rare qualities of OCD that work for him since they allow him to kill his enemies.

"I started reading about obsession and obsessive compulsive behaviour," says Washington. "I developed a back story for myself that whatever it was he used to do - and I'm glad we don't say - caused an amount of damage or post-traumatic stress.

"He's lost his wife - we don't quite know why - and it manifests itself in this obsessive compulsive behaviour. He says to the girl 'you've got to be who you are in this world', but I don't think he's being who he is."

This movie caused Denzel to hook up with his previous Training Day director Antoine Fuqua. The two shared some good old memories of the days since they had made Training Day together. Time had almost seemed to fly.

The director said that he enjoyed working with Denzel and that the two were like fellow musicians who just got their groove on and sang in unison on whatever project they were working on.

And already Fuqua has plans to showcase Denzel in another movie titled The Magnificent Seven in 2015. Denzel is almost 60 years old. Yet he has the raw talent and the chutzpah to see him through many a tough movie.

His film Déjà Vu which came out a couple of years back was quite a hit too. It showed things repeating themselves again and again in his life till he finally breaks free of the rut he is stuck in.
