The movie Gone Girl is about a romance that has been twisted out of shape.

Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck star in Gone Girl, a torturous story of homicide, male machismo and domestic life gone awry. The Hitchcock-inspired saga was directed by David Fincher.

It is a cocaine-fuelled trip alright as far as its level of engagement is concerned. It brings to mind the television series titled House of Cards. Rosamund Pike characterizes the runaway girl.

The film is nightmarish, filled with impulsivity and shows the dark side of things or rather the seamy side of life. Rosamund is a living proof of the perfect woman.

But beneath the surface there lie problems – way too many issues and demons that need to be exorcised. Rosamund plays the lovely and sexy wife of a journalist (impersonated by Ben Affleck).

The hard economic times test the limits of their patience as they move from the city back to Ben’s hometown in the Midwest. There Rosamund has to tend a bar with Ben’s sister.

When Rosamund suddenly disappears without a trace, Ben talks to the media about finding her. However, his concern is mistaken for play-acting and he is blamed for his spouse’s vanishing act.

Then when Rosamund’s diary comes out before the public it is discovered that their marriage had been on the rocks. Ben had also taken to the bottle and had a loose temper to boot.

Fincher’s previous movies such as Seven and Zodiac too presented the banality of evil. This movie also slowly ever so imperceptibly reveals that evil is a step by step process of losing control.

The flashbacks then begin in Gone Girl and they show scenes of possible violence. But the element of suspense and intrigue are kept intact throughout the movie.

There is the investigating cop, Rhonda Boney, and her sidekick who go into the details of the web of homicidal mania and human relations. It is a must-see movie and the audiences will not emerge from the darkened theaters without having some of the noir darkness rub off on them.
