Swim star Michael Phelps got arrested for DUI at the beginning of October. He apologized for the incident on Twitter, but in breaking news, Team USA has suspended the athlete for 6 months.

As reported on Oct. 1 Michael Phelps got arrested in Baltimore for driving under the influence. Michael Phelps got pulled over at 1:40am as he was driving 84mph instead of the allowed 45mph. Officers then found him under the influence and they brought him to the next police station where he was booked. Michael Phelps already has a DUI arrest from 10 years ago.

Michael Phelps took to Twitter to issue an apology the next day. The message expands over three tweets. Read below.

Now the Team USA Swimming has announced to suspend the most decorated Olympian of all time. USA Swimming says that they acknowledged the severity of the arrest, which is the Phelps second DUI in 10 years, and said today that Phelps has received a 6 month suspension from competing in the sport. Phelps announced Sunday he has entered a 6 week treatment program. He has also agreed to withdraw from competing at next summer's FINA World Championships. Phelps got had a 3-month suspension in 2009 after a photo surfaced of him with marijuana pipe. Via Team USA.

The Olympic record medal winner is actually back in training and is competing. Most recently he participated in 2014 Pan Pacific Championships last month.
