Selena Gomez spoke recently regarding her roles and her BFF Taylor Swift.

Selena wants the world to know that she is not a super-privileged individual. She too has to work her ass off to get the coveted roles in the movies she appears in. And her new film Rudderless is about to come on the scene soon. Selena confesses that she doesn’t take a role because of the money or fame.

On the contrary, she chooses it on the basis of whether she will be able to remain true to it or not. That is the criterion and not pure glamor or bling. She also said that a very close buddy of hers had told her that if she was the most intelligent person in the room, she was in the wrong place.

Selena counts stars like Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato among her BFFs. Selena said that she wanted to learn from her seniors and unlike certain starlets didn’t have an ego the size of an elephant.

She would rather be overshadowed by larger talents and gain something from them in the way of acting chops than remain in her comfort zone and not budge an inch. Selena especially said all this in reference to her Rudderless costars.

"I would rather be in a smaller part and learn from people like Bill [William H. Macy], Felicity [Huffman], and Billy [Crudup]," Gomez told Us Weekly. "That makes me a better actress. Even though I feel like it can be uncomfortable sometimes, that's honestly what's going to make me grow."

She liked to expand and take the wilder, weirder and wider approach in life instead of keeping mum and vegetating. She has been doing auditions of late just to induce some self-growth in her personality.

"I love to push myself. I can't say I got this [role] because of who I am. I got this in spite of who I am. That's what I love about acting. I can escape from the madness. This project in particular made me feel like I get to be a real actress," she said.

And as far as the tabloids are concerned, Selena knows how to handle all that negative press. She has developed a hide as thick as a rhinoceros.

"I just don't listen," Gomez told Us Weekly, while adding that social media was something she doesn't "think about too much to be honest."

Meanwhile, the singer and actress let on that she may be migrating to The Big Apple. Hollywood was too stressful a place to be residing in. And her best friend, Taylor Swift, has been after her for months to shift there. But Selena is wavering despite the charm and allure of NYC.

"I'd love to spend time in New York. I've always said that I want to have a love affair and live there," Gomez told E! News.

"Taylor has been begging me to live there. She's like, 'It's the best decision I've ever made.' Everyone always says I'm more New York when they meet me so maybe it would be good for me. I don't spend enough time there."

She said that she always wanted to go there and start a new affair or something all over again. Taylor had bought an expensive penthouse in Tribeca. Selena may also buy a pad and go live there as an alternative to gossipy old Tinsel Town.
