Snapchat got hit by elaborate hack. 100,000 private photos are in hands of hackers.

Snapchat is supposed to be a save way to exchange naughty photos as the photos have an expiration date and the images disappear unless a hacker got in between. 4Chan users already call it the Snappening in relation to the huge celebrity photo hacking scandal that involved the Apple iCloud. That hack is referred to as the Fappening.

According to BusinessInsider a 3rd-party Snapchat client app has collected snaps over the last years that have been sent through it. There are 13GB of photos that users of that client thought are deleted.

It is not clear yet which 3rd party Snapchat app got hacked. A lot points towards a now discontinued SnapSaved.

SnapChat has released a statement that says that Snapchat servers have not been compromised. The victimized Snapchatters got hit because of their use of a 3rd party app. Snapchat actually does not allow 3rd party apps that send and receive snaps in their Terms of Use.

Snapchat is used by a lot of teenagers. Kids need to learn at an early age to not share private information that can harm them later.
