Netflix 4K Ultra is Now More Expensive

Netflix offers 4K Ultra streaming. Now the streaming video leader has increased the monthly rate for the service.

Netflix offered the limited 4K Ultra streaming so far in the standard subscription. Now you need the Platinum plan that costs $11.99 per month to get 4K Ultra HD streaming. The 4K Ultra Netflix streaming requires a fast internet connection (at least 25mbps) and you need a 4K Ultra HD TV that has HEVC codec. As pointed out in this report we still recommend skipping the purchase of an Ultra HD TV.

4K Netflix HD is nice, but it is still very, very limited. Netflix offers Breaking Bad and House of Cards in 4K, but these are already the highlights. The first future proof Ultra HD TVs are just now hitting the market. The only 4K Ultra HD TVs we recommend right now are the LG UB9500 or LG UB8500 as these UHD TVs have HDMI 2.0 and the HEVC codec for Netflix.

The price hike for 4K Ultra HD is not surprising and should not stop anybody who is an early adopter from using the service. I am pretty sure customers will gladly pay the fee if Netflix will start releasing more 4K Ultra HD movies and TV series. Netflix just started 4K streaming this year after announcing the service at the CES 2014.

4K Ultra HD is the future of TV. The problem is again that TV sets are ahead of the content delivery. It will take quite a while to get enough 4K content. Streaming services like Netflix are key as the plans for 4K discs are still very vague. Additionally your average DSL line is not cutting it. You need fiber or cable service to have enough bandwidth for 4K streaming.
