Walmart launched a new movie service that allows you to watch the movie you just bought on VUDU right away.

Walmart InstaWatch is a new way to watch the movie you purchased on Walmart right away through the VUDU service. Walmart InstaWatch makes it easy to actually use the digital copy you buy with a DVD or Blu-ray.

Walmart says that while the retailer sold digital copies with DVDs and Blu-rays for years, they found out that very few customers redeemed their digital movies. That is supposed to change with Walmart InstaWatch.

This is how Walmart InstaWatch works:

  • Open the Walmart mobile app and go to Savings Catcher. Scan the receipt from your purchase or enter the receipt number.
  • Sign in to your existing VUDU account or create a new VUDU account.
  • Within minutes, a mobile or email notification will confirm your digital movie is ready to watch on VUDU.

Walmart InstaWatch helps Walmart to compete with Amazon. It is aimed at customers that still want a physical copy of a movie, getting more value out the bundled digital copy. If you just want to rent, you can just instantly stream movies as before.
