Bob Marley’s family kick started the first global marijuana brand recently.

Bob Marley was a reggae singer from Jamaica who stunned the world with his catchy lyrics and soulful tunes that spoke of redemption and revolution. He also loved his cannabis which he often smoked in the form of a spliff. Today, long after his demise, his extended family members have inaugurated what appears to be the world’s first marijuana brand.

Termed Marley Natural, the range of products includes creams, lotions and a number of accessories. It is being launched in conjunction with Privateer Holdings which is a legacy of the cultural importance of Jamaica.

The intoxicant product will get sold starting from the year 2015 in the United States of America and the rest of the world. Bob Marley’s daughter has said that her legendary father would probably be looking down in benevolent happiness from the heavens at such a move.

He was in favor of smoking cannabis. The healing properties of the weed were manifold and it also relieved chronic pain. Bob Marley’s mission was to legalize marijuana and that movement to free access to the drug began half a century ago.

Today it has almost reached its successful resolution. Bob Marley and cannabis go together. If ever there was an advocate of the drug it was Marley himself. The two simply fit each other hand in glove. In fact, Marley was the most visible and prominent display symbol of the drug and its many pleasures and problem-solving properties.

Bob Marley died of cancer in the early 80s. He and his Rastafarian religion allowed him the use of cannabis and he fought tooth and nail to allow the legalization of the drug. States such as Colorado and Washington allow the use of cannabis for recreation.

The rest of the jurisdictions of the US may follow suit and legalize marijuana. It would indeed be a welcome move away from the stuffed shirt culture of rigid patriarchy and draconian rules that is prevalent in many parts of the country.

The mass production of the drug for enjoyment in the form of joints that can be smoked and various items that may be applied to the body is a boon and a blessing in today’s stressful age of painful shocks and anxieties.

A three decade long license has been reinstated between Marley’s family and Privateer Holdings. The business could turn out to be a profitable one indeed with people turning up in queues to get a dose of marijuana.
