He further explained that all U.S passports issued since 2007 have been embedded with RFID chips which make them a growing target for hackers. That is why the iPassport has been created he explained.

This new iPassport has been equipped with some features such as the Biometric Lock, Bluetooth 4.0 Smart Tethering Technology, RFID technology and Lithium-Ion battery. The Biometric Lock integrates the iPassport with a highly reliable biometric touch sensor for identity verification.
