CEO Tim Cook confirms on Tuesday

During a conference call about the fourth quarter earnings of 2014 on Tuesday evening, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that the Apple Watch will start shipping to retailers and consumers beginning in April. The conference call was a historical one as Cook informed executives and shareholders that the company was able to set a world record in quarterly profit at $18 billion. The new numbers were spurred by better than expected iPhone sales during the quarter and a 70 percent quarter to quarter increase of sales and revenue in China.

The Apple Watch will be the biggest product release by Apple since 2010 when the company introduced the iPad to the market. Cook added during the conference call that he is very excited by the response by app developers and that consumers should certainly be excited about some of the innovative apps that will be readily available for the Apple Watch at launch time. When the Apple Watch was first shown back in September of last year, Cook announced during that event that the watch would be released sometime during the early part of 2015. Over the past month, it had been a consensus amongst major analysts that the Apple Watch release would come during the month of March. Cook added during the company meeting on Tuesday that Apple breaks up the year into three, four month periods which are labeled early, middle, and late. With the April release date confirmed, Apple still was able to hit their early 2015 mark and goal.

While Cook did give people a better insight of the logistics of the Apple Watch, there is still no official word as to exactly how much the Apple Watch will cost. During the September unveiling, Cook said that the watch would start at $349, which will be on track with the cost of new iPhone units. A definite word on the price of the Apple Watch should most certainly come closer to the date of the April launch.
